Non-Protest Actions Bingo
The below bingo card contains a list of actions you can take (other than protesting) to help further the cause. If you get a bingo (or heck, a blackout), tag us on social media to let us know!
1. Those who are unable to protest themselves for any reason can still assist by offering to provide transportation, take care of the children of others who will be able to attend, or coordinate bail and legal representation in case of arrests (among other things). If you know of anyone with legitimate reasons to not participate in protests, it may be worth reminding them that there are still other ways to help us get out the voices on the street that we so desperately need.
What Are We Really Celebrating?
There’s a lot happening on June 14, 2025. It’s Flag Day—the anniversary of the official adoption of the Stars and Stripes as the emblem of the United States. It also marks the 250th birthday of the U.S. Army, first established in 1775. And, yes, it’s also Donald Trump’s birthday.
This year, the Trump administration has planned a large military parade in the nation’s capital to commemorate the day. On its surface, a military celebration might seem like a fitting tribute to honor the Army’s founding. But if you’re old enough to remember Cold War footage of Red Square in Moscow, you’ll likely feel a chill at the idea. Military parades are the language of authoritarian regimes—used not to celebrate freedom, but to display raw power. They’re not about pride; they’re about intimidation. They don’t speak to democracy—they speak to domination.
America’s Army was born not to enforce power, but to resist it. In 1775, colonial leaders created a unified military to protect the 13 colonies from British oppression. That force wasn’t formed to glorify a single ruler or intimidate its own citizens—it was built to push back against monarchy, against tyranny, against the unchecked will of one man—a king.
That origin matters. Our military was founded on the principle that power should answer to the people—not the other way around. Its mission is to defend liberty, not to elevate the ambitions of any one individual. It exists to protect rights, not trample them. To serve the nation, not to serve a personality. To stand against oppression, not enforce it.
And yet, with this administration’s growing list of assaults on democratic principles, it’s hard not to see this parade for what it truly is: a show of authoritarian ambition. This isn’t about honoring our troops or our flag. It’s a pageant of power orchestrated by a man who has spent years chipping away at the very freedoms those soldiers were sworn to defend.
Leading up to this moment, we’ve seen the normalization of things once thought unimaginable in the United States: the undermining of the separation of powers, the open denial of due process, masked federal agents detaining civilians off the streets without identification or accountability. We’ve seen vicious attacks on the free press, attempts to delegitimize higher education, and a wholesale erosion of trust in democratic institutions. These aren’t isolated offenses—they are a pattern, a coordinated effort to recast the American presidency as something more akin to monarchy.
But we, the people, still have a voice.
So this June 14, let’s gather not in Washington, but right here in Colorado. Let’s meet in Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Grand Junction, Trinidad, and communities across our state. Let’s join communities in every other state and remind ourselves and our neighbors that the flag doesn’t belong to one man. It belongs to all of us. The Army wasn’t created to serve a ruler. It was created to serve a republic.
Let’s take back the meaning of this day. Let’s stand up—not to celebrate power, but to celebrate freedom and democracy.
Let’s declare that we are not subjects. We are citizens.
We believe in the Constitution. We believe in democracy. We believe in a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.
And we still say, as clearly as ever: No kings.
